Terroir Artisanal Chocolates is a small independent artisan chocolate maker in the heart of Beverley, Yorkshire, where craftsmanship, creativity and an endless curiosity for flavour come together.

Everything we create is handcrafted in small batches, with a focus on exceptional ingredients, craftsmanship and, above all, flavour.

 

But our story began long before Terroir itself.

OUR STORY

 

Our founder and chocolatier, Mayara Zanote, grew up in Brazil watching her mother handcraft chocolates in a tiny atelier.

​

Easter was always a particularly magical time, filled with chocolate, moulds, wrapping and the excitement of seeing something handmade bring so much joy.

​

That early connection never really disappeared.

​

Years later, after studying Agronomy and exploring cacao origins across Brazil and the Amazon, Mayara found her way back to chocolate, this time with a deeper understanding of agriculture, ingredients and the extraordinary world behind chocolate.

​

There was so much more to discover.

​

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Terroir started small, with just five chocolate moulds and an idea.

​

From those first chocolates, created one small batch at a time, Terroir gradually grew into our little chocolate shop in the heart of Beverley.

​

Today, everything is still handcrafted in small batches, with the same curiosity and attention to flavour that were there from the beginning.

​

MADE IN BEVERLEY, YORKSHIRE

Our collection continues to evolve, from colourful bonbons and indulgent filled bars to seasonal creations and our growing exploration of bean-to-bar chocolate.

​

We take inspiration from ingredients, places, memories, seasons and sometimes simply an idea we can't stop thinking about.

​

Some flavours are comforting and familiar.

​

Others are a little more unexpected.

​

But whatever we're creating, flavour always comes first.

​

Does it taste extraordinary?

​

That's the question that matters most to us.

​

A LITTLE RECOGNITION ALONG THE WAY

​

In 2025, Terroir received nine medals at the Academy of Chocolate Awards, becoming the most awarded chocolatier of the year in the Filled Bonbons category, an extraordinary milestone for our small independent business.

​

Since receiving our first awards in 2024, our creations have earned 13 medals in total across the Academy of Chocolate and the International Chocolate Awards, recognition we're incredibly proud of as a small artisan chocolate maker.

​

We're still experimenting, learning, tasting and constantly looking for ways to make the next chocolate even better than the last.

​

Because there is always more to discover.

​

OUR STORY IS STILL BEING WRITTEN

​

What began with five chocolate moulds has become something we could never have imagined.

​

Every order, every visit to our shop, every message, recommendation and chocolate shared with someone else has helped us get here.

​

And we're only just getting started.
